Luna

African mahogany and silver

A hand-crafted light sculpture for the wall.

African mahogany & silver50 × 60 cmEdition of 122023
Luna: a round African mahogany wall sculpture with a silver centre and three pendants, light rays fanning out across the wall above it.

The idea

Light borrowed from the moon.

Luna is a decorative sculpture inspired by the ethereal beauty of the moon, and by the soft, pale light that seems to come from far away. The light sits behind the disc and escapes through narrow slits, filling the wall above with long rays.

It is at its best at dusk: the darker the room, the sharper the rays.

Made by hand, one at a time.

Luna is made by hand in Joachim Tantau's studio near Hamburg, in a limited edition of 12 pieces. The disc is cut from African mahogany, the moon is covered in silver leaf, and three pendants of the same wood hang below on brass.
